We invite you, our community, for a yoga session led by Shyla Gaebel that will include education and discussion. Shyla is an Indigenous, 500-hr Trauma-Informed yoga teacher from Sioux Valley Dakota Nation, raised in Regina, Sask on Treaty 4 Territory.
During this session with Shyla, she will offer us the opportunity to learn about:
- Smudging and what it means to Indigenous people
- A sharing circle and the importance it plays in First Nations communities and how talking can be healing
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, is a federal statutory holiday to recognize and commemorate the tragic history and ongoing legacy of residential schools and to honour the survivors, their families and communities.
On Tuesday September 30th, we will be open to serve you and we will be wearing orange t-shirts purchased from Cowessess First Nation to honour Residential School Survivors. We are asking you to not just wear orange, but to learn more about the impact and legacy of residential schools, and use the day to engage in reconciliation by attending an event near you.
** you are welcome to bring your own yoga mat AND there will be mats provided for those without one **
